The storm did not come from the sky.
It gathered in my thoughts,
in the quiet spaces where fear learns how to speak.

There was no warning.
Just a sudden pressure,
like the air had thickened around my soul,
making every breath feel heavier than the last.

Accusations moved in like clouds.
What if you’ve misunderstood God?
What if you’ve gone too far this time?
What if you’re alone in this?

The wind was relentless,
spinning old failures into new threats,
raising questions I thought I had already settled.
Everything familiar felt unstable.

The thunder was loudest at night.
That’s when the lies sharpened,
when the noise grew bold enough
to challenge what I knew to be true.

I looked for shelter,
for certainty,
for something solid to hold onto
while the storm tried to convince me
I was exposed and unprotected.

And then I noticed something I had missed.
The storm had boundaries.
It could speak,
but it could not decide.
It could accuse,
but it could not condemn.

The noise was real,
but it was not sovereign.

Even here,
where fear felt convincing
and darkness pressed close,
Your presence did not retreat.

You were not waiting for the storm to pass.
You were not silent because You were absent.
You were steady,
holding the line the storm could not cross.

When the noise finally lost its power
and the pressure began to lift,
I understood what the storm had never told me.

You were with me all along.

If you’ve ever tried to change the way you think, you know it’s hard. Not “learn a new hobby” hard. More like “my brain keeps dragging me back to the same old fears, habits, and reactions” hard.

When Paul told believers to renew their minds, he wasn’t just talking about spiritual encouragement. He was describing a divine biological reality. God literally gave your brain the capacity to change.

And I know this personally.
In 2019, I had an ischemic stroke, the kind that blocks blood flow to the brain. It shook everything. It was frustrating, humbling and faith-building all at the same time.

But as I went through rehab, I learned something I’ll never forget: my brain started finding new routes.

Where one pathway was damaged, another began to open.

That’s neuroplasticity, and it’s proof that God built recovery into the design.

It’s the same way spiritually. You can’t always control the first thought that pops up, but you can choose the second one. You can teach your brain to stop looping on fear, anxiety, or shame and start aligning with peace, hope, and truth. It takes time, consistency, and grace, but it’s possible.

Science says repetition rewires.
Scripture says meditation transforms.
Turns out, they’re saying the same thing.

When you pray daily, when you speak Scripture over yourself, when you replace “I can’t” with “God can,” your neurons start linking differently. That’s not just motivation. That’s remodeling.

The same way my brain began building new connections after that stroke, your spiritual life can rebuild trust, focus, and peace through truth. Neuroplasticity is how God makes healing not just hopeful, but physiological.

So if you’ve ever wondered why it takes time for new habits to stick, or why faith sometimes feels like practice, this is why. You’re rewiring.

You’re not who you used to be because your brain, and your belief, aren’t either.

Science may call it neuroplasticity.
Scripture calls it renewal.
Either way, your mind is not your prison. It’s your testimony in progress.

We truly serve an awesome and mighty God. Every neuron, every thought, every pathway speaks of His perfect design… a Creator who planned renewal right into our biology.

Every now and then, I like to pause our regular rhythm and talk about something that many Christians have heard in passing but never actually learned. Today is one of those days. Consider this a special lesson, one that opens a door into a part of Jewish thought that can enrich your faith in ways you may not expect.

We’re talking about Tikkun Olam.

Now, if you’ve never heard that phrase before, you’re not alone. Most Christians haven’t. And if you have heard it, chances are it was described as “doing good in the world.” Sweet idea, but far too shallow. Tikkun Olam carries more weight, more history, and more responsibility than a simple encouragement to be nice.

So let’s walk through it together!

What Tikkun Olam Actually Means

The phrase Tikkun Olam comes from rabbinic tradition and has roots in several eras of Jewish thought. Literally, it means repairing the world. Not repairing it in some grand, superhero way, but participating in God’s ongoing work of restoration.

Tikkun Olam acknowledges two things at once:

The world is broken in places.
God invites His people to participate in healing those places.

This isn’t about achieving perfection. It’s about responsibility and refusing to shrug at what is cracked. It’s about recognizing that covenant people don’t walk past brokenness as if it belongs to someone else.

As believers, we often think in terms of personal salvation. Tikkun Olam reminds us that God also cares about the world we inhabit, the systems we touch, and the people affected by our choices.

It’s a call to attentive presence.
A call to repair what you can reach.
A call to reflect the character of the God who restores.

Let Me Tell You a Story

There’s an old story that I love that I want to bring into this conversation because it captures the heartbeat of Tikkun Olam better than a definition ever could.

A man walks along a beach after a storm. Starfish are scattered everywhere, stranded on the sand. Hundreds and Hundreds of them. The shoreline is covered. It’s overwhelming even to look at.

He starts picking them up one at a time and tossing them back into the water.

Another man comes walking down the beach and finally calls out, “Why are you doing that? There are too many. You can never pick up all these starfish. You’ll never make a difference.”

The man picks up another starfish, tosses it gently into the waves, and says, “To that one, it makes a difference.”

This story may seem like some feel-good moment, but tucked inside is something deeper. The man wasn’t trying to fix the entire coastline. He wasn’t paralyzed by the scale of the problem. He simply responded to what was placed in front of him.

That’s the posture of Tikkun Olam.
You repair what your hands can reach.
You participate in God’s work right where you stand.

Why This Matters for Christian Faith

If you’ve spent your life in Christian spaces, you may have heard a lot about changing the world but very little about repairing what’s already in your path.

Tikkun Olam shifts that perspective.
It teaches you to pay attention.
It teaches you to respond.
It teaches you that obedience doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it quietly restores.

Jesus models this beautifully. He doesn’t sweep through the world fixing everything in one moment. He steps into specific towns, meets specific people, and brings repair one situation at a time.

He creates wholeness where brokenness used to be and brings dignity where shame was operating unchecked. He restores what looked too far gone.

That’s repair work.
That’s Tikkun Olam lived out in flesh and blood.

Repair Is Sacred Even When It’s Small

One of the most freeing parts of Tikkun Olam is that the work isn’t dependent on your scale or influence. God does not ask you to fix the world. He asks you to respond faithfully within the portion entrusted to you.

A conversation that needs courage.
A situation that needs compassion.
A moment that needs intervention.
A person who needs someone to show up.

You bring your portion.
God brings the tide.

And sometimes you’ll never see the full impact. That’s fine. Repair doesn’t need applause to matter. It just needs participation.

My Final Thoughts

Tikkun Olam is not just some abstract idea. It’s a worldview. It’s a way of living awake. It trains you to notice what needs healing instead of assuming someone else will handle it. It reminds you that restoration often begins with the smallest act of faithfulness.

So if you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to participate in God’s heart for the world without burning out or breaking under the weight of it all, start here. Start small. Start with the “starfish” in front of you.

Repair what you can reach.
Honor what God places in your path.
Trust that nothing offered in faith is wasted.

That’s Tikkun Olam in motion.
And it’s a beautiful thing to witness.

A Lesson From a Broken Plate

Not long ago, I dropped one of my heavy dinner plates. It shattered into large, jagged pieces. The kind that make you gasp. I swept them up, tossed them in the trash, and double-checked for any stray bits.

Hours later, while cooking dinner barefoot (because socks are optional, right?), I felt a sharp jab in my foot.
There it was: a tiny sliver I’d completely missed. Barely visible, but it hurt.

And in that moment, God gently whispered:
“This is what your heart looks like, too. You’ve picked up the big pieces… but there are still some fragments left behind.”

I thought I had dealt with my past. The harsh words, the family conflicts, the rejection. I had forgiven. I had moved on. But I hadn’t fully handed over the tiny pieces still lodged deep inside; the quiet insecurities, the old lies I still believed.

Those small fragments, like the shard in my foot, were still causing pain even though they seemed insignificant.

The Fragments That Still Hurt

Maybe you can relate. You’ve forgiven, but the sting lingers.
You’ve walked away from toxic relationships, but their words echo.
You’ve turned it all over to God… or at least, most of it.

But sometimes, we leave behind what looks too small to matter. And yet, those are the very pieces that pierce.

We think we’ve healed because the big things are gone, but God invites us to go deeper. To bring Him the quiet hurts, the hidden disappointments, and the unresolved emotions that still shape how we see ourselves.

He doesn’t just want to patch us up. He wants to make us whole.

God Cares About Every Piece

Wholeness starts with honesty. Telling God, “This still hurts.”

Even if it’s small. Even if it feels old. Even if you’re tired of talking about it.

God’s love is big enough for the fragments you barely recognize.
His healing reaches into the corners you’ve forgotten.

He says,

“Throw all your anxieties upon Him, because He cares about you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7

When you surrender every piece, not just the obvious ones, He creates something beautiful out of what felt beyond repair.

1. Matthew 5:44 (CJB) – “Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you.”

Some chapters are full of joy and laughter, but others carry the weight of pain, regret, or fear. And sometimes, if we’re honest, we cling to those old seasons, not because they were good, but because they were familiar.

The unknown can feel scarier than what we’ve already survived.

That’s why the story of the Israelites hits so close to home. God had miraculously rescued them from slavery in Egypt, yet their hearts kept wandering back. Egypt had been harsh and cruel, but it was predictable. And predictable often feels safer than trusting God with a future we can’t yet see.

But staying stuck in the past keeps us from stepping into the life God has promised. He calls us to lay it down, move forward, and trust Him, one step at a time.

So, let’s talk about your Egypt.

When Looking Back Feels Safer

In Exodus 16, just weeks after leaving Egypt, the Israelites began to complain:

“The whole congregation of Bnei-Yisrael murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.” — Exodus 16:2 (TLV)

Their words reveal so much about the human heart:

“If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” — Exodus 16:3 (TLV)

Fear and hunger made slavery seem better than the uncertainty of freedom.

But here’s what they missed: while they were grumbling, God was preparing manna from heaven. He was leading them to a land overflowing with promise.

The past had blinded them to the miracle happening right in front of them.

Why Letting Go Is So Hard

The Israelites aren’t the only ones who struggle here.

We do the same thing when we:

• Revisit old relationships because loneliness feels unbearable

• Question our faith when life gets messy

• Cling to habits or thought patterns because change feels too risky

The enemy loves to whisper that what’s behind us is safer than what’s ahead. That we should settle for familiar pain rather than trust God for unknown freedom.

But letting go doesn’t mean pretending the past never happened. It means surrendering it—the mistakes, the memories, the hurt—to the One who can redeem it all.

“Sink the Ships”

History tells of Hernán Cortés, who, after landing his army in Mexico, sank his own ships. Retreat wasn’t an option. Moving forward was the only way.

Some of us need to do the same with our past.

The “ships” in our lives—those old relationships, failures, or sins—become escape routes we run to when the present feels too hard. But if we keep those ships in the harbor, we’ll always be tempted to go back.

Sink the ships.
Close the door.
Trust the God who leads you forward.

Scriptures to Hold Onto

• “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” — Isaiah 43:18-19

• “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

• “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1

• “Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Practical Steps for Letting Go

1. Journal the journey
   Write down the memories, fears, or regrets you struggle to release. Then find Scriptures that speak truth over each one.

2. Take every thought captive
   When old fears surface, stop them in their tracks. Replace them with God’s promises.

3. Pray through the pain
   Invite God into the places that still feel raw. Ask Him to heal and lead you forward.

4. Seek wise counsel
   Sometimes letting go requires help—a pastor, a mentor, or a trusted friend who can speak life over you.

A Question for Your Heart

What is your Egypt?

• The habit you can’t seem to break?

• The relationship you keep revisiting?

• The fear that holds you hostage?

Whatever it is, God is calling you forward. He has manna for today and a promised land for tomorrow.

The Promise of Peace

Letting go isn’t easy. But peace lives on the other side of surrender.

When we release the past, we make space for the new thing God wants to do. The wilderness may feel uncertain, but it’s the pathway to promise.

So, take His hand. Trust His heart. And leave Egypt behind once and for all.

I imagined the big YES moments would come with confetti and clarity.
A holy high. A breakthrough moment. Something cinematic. I mean, I do love a good celebration.

But here’s what nobody told me:

Sometimes your big yes doesn’t feel like a mountaintop.
It feels like an empty hallway.
One door closed.
Another not yet opened.
And you’re just… standing there.

You know you obeyed.
You know it was Him.
But it’s quiet now. And a little lonely. And a WHOLE lot slower than you thought it’d be.

And that’s the part that used to trip me up.

Because I mistook stillness for failure.
I mistook silence for abandonment.
I mistook the in-between for being stuck, when it was really just being still.

📖 Psalm 27:14 — “Wait for Adonai. Be strong, let Your heart take courage, and wait for Adonai.”

This verse doesn’t treat waiting like a punishment.
It treats it like a place where strength is built.

Maybe that’s where you are right now.
You said yes. You let go. You obeyed.
And now you’re walking through the quiet hallway between what was and what will be.

Let me whisper this to you like a good friend sitting across the table from you over a fabulous latte:

You’re not stuck.
You’re not behind.
You’re not forgotten.

You’re just between doors.

The hallway isn’t a detour.
It’s a sacred stretch; the kind that strengthens your legs for the next season.

Ok, confession time!

I’ve been moving at a pace that’s not sustainable.

And not because God told me to. But because I felt like if I didn’t do it all, right now, somehow everything would fall apart.

Somewhere along the way, I let urgency creep in and start bossing me around.
Build the platform. Finish the book. Design the thing. Fix the edits. Answer the emails.

Go. Go. Go.

But here’s what the Lord whispered to me in the middle of all my striving:

“The vision is sacred — but so is the servant.”

Oof.

That hit me. Because it’s true. I’ve been trying to steward this calling with excellence, but I forgot to care for the vessel He’s using to carry it.

Psalm 127:1 says:
"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain."

That doesn’t just mean He blesses the outcome. It means He sets the pace.
And when I start running ahead of Him, I end up working in vain; anxious, tired, scattered, and stretched too thin.

God didn’t call me to collapse for the Kingdom. He called me to co-labor with Him… to move in step with His Spirit and trust His timeline.

So today, I’m reminding myself:

✅ The work is holy, but so is my well-being.
✅ The vision matters, but the vessel does too.
✅ God’s timing never requires my burnout.

Where have I been pushing past peace?
What’s one task I can pause or delegate this week?
How can I honor the servant…myself…while still honoring the call?

Can I be honest?

Sometimes I get scared to be fully open about my faith in certain spaces.

Not because I don’t love Jesus. Not because I’m ashamed of what I believe. But because I don’t want to deal with the side-eyes, the awkward silence, or the quiet judgment.

What if they think I’m too much?
What if I lose respect, opportunities, or relationships?
What if they misunderstand me?

That is where double-mindedness creeps in.

One moment I feel bold. The next, I am shrinking back. One minute I am proclaiming God’s truth. The next, I am softening my words to avoid discomfort.

And Scripture does not let us stay comfortable with that struggle. James 1:6-8 says:

“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

That hits hard because it reminds me that my hesitation affects more than just my confidence. It can impact my prayers, my decisions, and my stability.

Double-mindedness creates spiritual instability. You are not fully surrendered, but you are not fully walking away either. You are stuck in the middle, leaning on faith one moment and leaning on fear the next.

The root of double-mindedness is fear; fear of man, fear of rejection, fear of loss. But God is calling us to fear Him alone. Not fear as in being afraid of Him, but reverencing His voice above every other voice in our lives.

I cannot serve two masters: my desire to please people and my calling to please God.

Today, I am reminding myself:

Obedience is better than approval.
Surrender is better than safety.
Boldness is better than blending.

The Dangers of Double-Mindedness

I used to think God had forgotten me when my prayers weren’t answered quickly. I thought my waiting meant I was being overlooked, like everyone else’s dreams were getting delivered while mine were still in processing.

But Hannah taught me something different.

She cried bitterly before the Lord. She poured her soul out, not with pretty words or polished faith, but with raw, gut-level honesty. She didn’t hide her anguish. She brought it.

“In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly.” — 1 Samuel 1:10

And God didn’t rebuke her.
He didn’t shame her.
He met her in it and used that cry to birth something greater than she ever imagined.

What came from Hannah’s pain wasn’t just a child, it was a prophet. A legacy. A shift in Israel’s spiritual history.

And sometimes the very pain we think is a delay…is actually part of our delivery. God doesn’t waste anything. Not the pain. Not the tears. Not the prayers prayed through gritted teeth.

One thing God keeps teaching me (and yes, I need the reminder often) is that faith is not something you build in the crisis.
Faith is something you bring into the crisis.

When life falls apart, when people disappoint you, when prayers seem delayed; that’s not the time to start scrambling for faith. That’s when you draw on what you’ve already built.

Waiting for the storm to hit before you start anchoring yourself to God’s Word is like trying to pour a foundation during a hurricane. It is too late. The preparation has to happen first.

That’s why James 1:2-4 tells us:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

We don’t grow by accident.
We grow on purpose.
We prepare for storms while the skies are still clear.

The testing will come. That part is guaranteed. What God wants to develop in us is the endurance to stand firm when it does.

It’s not about having perfect faith. It’s about having planted faith.
Faith that’s rooted before the shaking starts.
Faith that’s not easily tossed because it already made up its mind: I trust God, period.

Before we can even talk about being unshakeable, we need to ask:

What am I rooted in?
When storms come (and they will), you don’t magically get stronger in the middle of it. You draw strength from the roots you built beforehand.

"Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream." (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

If I’m rooted in people’s opinions? I’ll sway.
If I’m rooted in my feelings? I’ll fall.
If I’m rooted in my own plans? I’ll panic.
But when I’m rooted in His truth, I can remain steady.

Let me go ahead and ruffle some linen-robed feathers:
I don’t always want to be the Proverbs 31 woman.

Now don’t grab your anointing oil and call a prayer circle just yet. I love the Word. I revere Scripture. I teach it. But can we just be real?

That passage is beautiful… and exhausting.

She rises early. She stays up late. She makes clothes. She handles business. She feeds her family, runs her household, supports her husband’s influence, invests in property, fears the Lord, and is somehow also kind, poised, resourceful, wise, joyful, and strong.

Sis. When does she sit down?

I used to read Proverbs 31 and feel inspired. Then intimidated. Then resentful. Then… guilty.

Because I love God. I want to serve my family well. I want to live wisely and walk uprightly. But I also want to nap. I want to wear sweatpants and not feel like a failure when the laundry piles up. I want to order takeout without whispering “forgive me, Lord” over a Chick-fil-A bag.

There are days when my strength is not showing. There are moments I am not clothed in dignity. There are weeks when I feel like I am failing at every role God has entrusted to me.

But then God reminds me of something simple… something sacred:

“I never asked you to be perfect. I asked you to be faithful.”

The Proverbs 31 woman isn’t a checklist. She’s not a divine to-do list we’re meant to conquer every morning before 9 a.m.

She is a poem. A literary picture of womanhood refined by wisdom, softened by grace, and crowned with purpose.

She’s not there to make you feel small.

She’s there to show you what’s possible…with time, with surrender, and with the Spirit’s help.

And not every day will look like that poem.

Some days, obedience looks like a 6 a.m. Bible study and homemade bread.
Other days, it looks like praying while brushing your teeth and trying not to cry over burnt toast.

But both days can be holy.

And that’s the freedom I’ve found: I don’t have to be her all the time to be pleasing to God.

I just have to walk in who He’s shaping me to be, day by day, verse by verse, mess by miracle.

The Real Goal?

Not to perform.
Not to impress.
But to live as a woman who fears the Lord, whether I’m crushing it or clinging to Him for dear life.

That’s what I want.

So no, I don’t want to be the Proverbs 31 woman all the time.

But I do want to be the woman who keeps showing up, keeps growing, and keeps trusting that God sees every imperfect effort and calls it precious.
