Why Scripture’s unchanging truth outlasts trends—and how to live it with love.

Every week, the culture seems to tweak the definition of truth. Algorithms tell us what to think, headlines tell us what to feel, and if our convictions don’t match the vibe of the moment, we’re labeled out of touch. So…can there be your truth and my truth? Or does Scripture point to something steadier, truth that doesn’t move when the polls do?
Let’s go searching together.
When “truth” turns slippery
If a claim shifts with trends, was it ever truth, or just a popular hypothesis? For centuries, people insisted the world was flat. Reality never adjusted to the opinion. Likewise, you can dislike gravity, but step off a roof and you’ll still meet the driveway. Feelings don’t edit facts.
Cultural answers morph. God’s Word doesn’t. If “truth” can be revised by preference, it wasn’t truth to begin with.

The Bible’s claim: truth is rooted in God
Scripture presents truth as fixed in the character of God and revealed in His Word.
John 14:6 — Jesus identifies Himself as the way, the truth, and the life.
John 8:31–32 — Abiding in His teaching leads to knowing truth and being set free.
Psalm 119:142 — God’s instruction is truth.
Psalm 25:5; 86:11; 145:18 — We’re led, taught, and drawn near in truth.
1 Corinthians 13:6 — Love rejoices with truth, not spin.
2 John 1–2 — Truth abides and remains.
Truth, in the biblical sense, isn’t a mood. It’s a Person and a revelation.
Why some “truth” never takes root
Jesus’ parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3–8) pictures seed landing on different soils. Shallow ground can sprout quickly but can’t endure heat. Thorns choke what could have borne fruit. Good soil welcomes the Word, grows roots, and produces a harvest.
Modern translation: if our hearts are crowded by trends, pressure, and hurry, even good seed struggles. When the Word is received deeply, it endures, and changes us.
“My choice = my truth”? Not quite.
God dignifies us with agency. He won’t force Himself on anyone. You can accept or reject Jesus. But choice doesn’t rewrite reality any more than refusing a seatbelt cancels physics. The gospel describes a gift held out; it becomes yours when received (not when ignored).
Scripture is clear about our condition and our need: all of us fall short (Romans 3:23). Our best efforts can’t make us righteous (see Isaiah 64:6). The good news is better than self-improvement: the Messiah bore our blame, offers mercy, and invites relationship, not performance.
And how does a life aligned with truth look? Jesus summarized it simply: love God with all you are and love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:30–31). Not complicated. Not easy. Absolutely true.
Walking in truth—practically
Test ideas against Scripture. If it contradicts the Word, it won’t hold.
Let love and truth travel together. Truth without love wounds; love without truth withers.
Cultivate “good soil.” Create rhythms—prayer, Scripture, community—that keep your heart soft and rooted.
Expect pushback. Truth has never been trendy for long. Stand kindly, firmly, and humbly.
Final word
Truth doesn’t shapeshift with the news cycle. It’s anchored in God, revealed in Scripture, embodied by Jesus, and meant to set us free. If you’ve wandered, you’re not disqualified—truth comes with grace attached and an open door home.
