Worried, troubled and overloaded are my middle name. We live in a fast paced world that is spinning out of control. This is a refreshing look at “lovely” Martha.
I was thinking about this the other day. I wondered what Jesus was saying about those who are always serving at church? It’s easy to get frustrated when you feel you are “the only one” doing something. Jesus addressed her heart, not her service. I do hope she found some time to learn from Jesus as well! 🙂
This passage was something that stayed hazy in my mind and I was personally struggling with something similar. So this post helped in two ways today. Thanks Diane. May Yeshua use you more for his kingdom🤍
What it brings to mind for me is that service is a heart matter. Am I serving my husband with a put-upon heart? Am I angry when my work goes unnoticed? Or, am I beginning to understand that my service is to God?
It's easy to forget sometimes that being busy in itself is not necessarily bad (up at a point, of course), but as in so many things it's the heart posture that makes the difference.
Oh thank you, thank you! I have always felt uncomfortable when this passage was being taught. If you have the gift of service, (Martha) that is where your heart is. Your service is your gift back to God. Martha was distracted by the wrong things - a double wammy: wanting to do it all well and watching her sister sit this one out!. Seeing this finally in 'print' is like closing a chapter.

Thank you Lin!!

I hope so as well!

Aww I am so glad it was an encouragement.

In this day and age the men would have been asked to assist in meal service rather than sitting on their pillows.
Depends on the culture I imagine.
I am so happy it resonated with you and helped it make sense!!
I am so happy you liked it!! I think we all grew up thinking it meant something different because, at least for me, we were never taught otherwise.
