One of the most consistent Messianic threads running through Scripture is one we tend to sentimentalize instead of understand: the shepherd.

Most Christians hear “shepherd” and immediately think gentle, pastoral, and comforting. Psalm 23 energy. Soft lighting. Calm hillsides. Angels on clouds singing the Hallelujah Chorus.
