Key Scriptures
“Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” – James 1:19 (TLV)
“Shema Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad.” – Deuteronomy 6:4
(“Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.”)
Opening Thought
In Hebrew, the word shema doesn’t just mean “hear”, it means to listen with the intention to obey. It’s a kind of listening that requires the ears, the mind, and most importantly, the heart. The Shema is more than a prayer… it’s a command to live life as one who listens.
Yeshua often said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Matthew 11:15). This isn’t about volume, it’s about attunement. Are we really present when others speak? Are we listening not just to words but to the soul behind them?
