✨ Did You Know? The high priest’s robe was more than fabric, it was a living sermon in motion: every step before God is holy, and every step should bear fruit.
When you think of Israel’s high priest, you probably picture the dazzling breastplate with twelve gemstones or the golden crown that read “Holy to the Lord.” But tucked into Exodus 28 is a surprising little detail most people skip right over:
“On the hem of it you are to make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet, all around the hem, with golden bells between them: 34 one golden bell and a pomegranate, then another golden bell and a pomegranate, on the hem of the robe all around.” (Exodus 28:33–34 TLV)
Yes, the priest literally jingled when he walked.

Why Bells and Pomegranates?
The bells weren’t decoration.. they signaled reverence. Exodus 28:35 says the priest would not die when he entered the Holy Place as long as the sound was heard. In other words, the bells announced: A priest is approaching the presence of the Lord with care.
The pomegranates (embroidered in yarn) symbolized fruitfulness and abundance. In Jewish tradition, the seeds of a pomegranate are said to correspond to the 613 commandments of the Torah. Whether or not you count them, the symbolism is rich: righteousness is meant to be fruitful.
So the robe preached its own sermon: holiness requires both reverence (bells) and fruitfulness (pomegranates).
Why It Matters for Us
In Messiah, we are called a “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). That doesn’t mean we need literal golden bells on our jeans… though honestly, Target probably has a knockoff version in the fashion aisle. It means our daily walk before God should “make a sound” of reverence, and our lives should bear the visible fruit of His Spirit.
Reverence without fruit becomes empty ritual. Fruit without reverence becomes noisy showmanship. But together? That’s a holy harmony.
📖 Scripture Study:
Exodus 28:31–35 — The robe of the high priest
1 Peter 2:9–12 — The royal priesthood today
Galatians 5:22–23 — The fruit of the Spirit
💭 Reflection:
What “sound” does your daily life make before the Lord? Do people hear reverence when you walk into the room? Do they see spiritual fruit hanging from your life like pomegranates on a hem?

Stunning assessment. The redeemed are to walk in reverence to The Holy One. We must admire the numerous times the 613 mitzvah are referenced throughout the Torah.
I love your insights into the Harmon fruit and reverence!
