7-Day Bible Study: “The God Who Sees: Encounters with El Roi”
Day 2: Hannah — Seen in the Waiting (1 Samuel 1)
Key Truth: God treasures every prayer we whisper, even when the world misunderstands us.
Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 1:1–28
Teaching:
Hannah’s story hits deep if you’ve ever waited and waited for God to move. Verse 7 says her rival “provoked her until she wept and would not eat.” Year after year, Hannah carried both grief and shame. Verse 10 says she was “deeply distressed.” The Hebrew phrase marat nephesh means “bitterness of soul”… a grief so raw it shakes your whole being.
And when she pours out her heart before God, Eli thinks she’s drunk (v. 13). Isn’t that just like life? People misread us, but God never does. Verse 19 says, “The Lord remembered her.” That word zakar doesn’t mean God had forgotten; it means He chose to act on her behalf at the right time.
Her persistence, even when misunderstood, teaches us that God hears what no one else can. He sees the silent prayers we pray through tears.

Journal Prompt: Write out your deepest prayer—the one you don’t usually put into words. Offer it to God today without holding back.
