Thanks for this. It was very informative. I took notes. I do have a question and forgive me if you did answer it in the article already and I missed it. What specifically do we pray as the shema? Is is all of deuteronomy 6:5-9, Deuteronomy 11:13-21 and Numbers 15:37-41? Or is it just the first lines from the verses? Do we say the Jewish words you taught us for the three Torah paragraphs? I would like to start trying to do this prayer consistently I just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks again for the wonderful article.

We wonder why so many of our young people (who grow up in “church,”graduate (from) High School, go on to college, and seemingly lose their way. Deuteronomy 6 gives us an answer, I believe - they went to “church”, attended Sunday School, went to youth group, and church camp, but, unfortunately, because it was not experienced daily(talking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up . . . with them written, on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” It never became theirs!

This is great. Thank you for connecting more dots for me. I'd always known the full Shema, but never realized why we were taught it. Plus reciting it at night hadn't been taught and never entered mind. This makes sense and comforting.

My mom says it in Hebrew everyday, which I didn't know until a few years ago, yet she only knew what the first line says in English. This information is also helping me put together prayer vs pray on what and how I am building a stronger relationship with The Lord.

Blessings to you for bring us so much from the Lord.

This is so deep! I agree, I’ll have to read this over and over. Thank you for your explanations. We non Jewish miss so much. That’s why I found the TLV bible so exciting. But alone, I’m only able to scratch the surface.

I’m an Episcopalian and grew up saying this prayer in what I think was our communion service. I memorized it. But somehow I think it must have gone away when the 1982 prayer book was published. I always loved saying it, but until reading this today didn’t realize how much I missed it. Thank you for the reminder.

I can’t figure out how to send the link- You tube has a short on little boy asks dad to say Shemma with him before bed so he won’t have nightmares. It is so precious- I hope you can find it🥰🥰🥰

I knew about the rest of the paragraph, but not the response or the others. So interesting!

Thank you for the teachings as it has really got me deeper in the Word of God. I am Puerto Rican with a hunger in understanding God's word. Many blessings to you and your household.

Thank you for your insights and teachings. I am new here and I love your words!! Could you possibly do a clarification on what it is to wait upon the Lord? From what I have found it is more of like a binding oneself (chava)? Is this on the right track?
