Stop Skimming the Word
Have you ever found yourself “reading” the Bible with your eyes but not with your spirit? Like you did the thing… you opened it, scrolled the verse of the day, maybe even highlighted something, but nothing landed?
That’s not just distraction, friend. That’s spiritual malnutrition. Because the Bible wasn’t meant to be skimmed like a blog post, it’s meant to feed you.
In my book Your Bible, Uncomplicated, I talk about how we’ve made the Word either too academic or too aesthetic. It’s either deep theology you need a seminary degree to decode, or it’s just feel-good quotes on pastel backgrounds. But the Word is living. Active. Sharp. And it is for you.
Hebrews 4:12 says:
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…”
That means when you open your Bible, you’re not doing a cute Christian task. You’re wielding a weapon. You’re receiving wisdom. You’re standing in the presence of the Author.
So this week, don’t just read a verse. Sit in it. Wrestle with it. Ask the Holy Spirit to unpack it. Write down one question. Ask God to show you one truth. And then… here’s the kicker… obey it.
🖊 Reflection Challenge:
Pick one verse that keeps showing up in your feed, your Bible, or your memory. Write it down. Ask:
What does this say about God?
What does this say about me?
What am I supposed to do with it?
👑 Mini-Memo from Your Word Girl:
The Word isn’t a checklist. It’s a conversation. And my loves, the Author is waiting for you to talk back.

Father God,
We come before You with open hearts, hungry for more of Your presence. Lord, You know every moment we’ve run to other wells... seeking comfort, answers, or escape anywhere but You. Forgive us, and gently draw us back to Your living water.
Today, I pray for my sister Carol. Meet her in the quiet, in the questions, and even in the struggle. Let her feel Your love wrapping around her, steady and strong. Give her a fresh hunger to seek You first, above the noise, the worry, or the weariness.
Fill every empty space with Your Spirit. Remind her that she’s never too far gone, never out of reach, and always cherished by You. Help her rest in Your presence, find peace in Your promises, and walk forward with hope.
We trust You to satisfy every need, every longing, and every heartache. Thank You for always being near... our source, our strength, and our truest joy.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
so powerful! How often do we do that? Just skim? Not bathe ourselves in His Word. What a potent reminider!
