Thank you for this. It hit home this morning. As I am going through a situation with my son separating from his wife because she has joined a cult and situation is getting worse this reminds the most important thing and that is that God is our redeemer. He is and will always be there in the process. I also was reminded that we as family have to stand together with what's right. I really needed this since my heart as a mother was so heavy but this have lifted the anxiety within me. God bless you.

I sometimes think 'rescuer' would be a better word. But that is just a quibble. With Job, he asks for (yearns for) a mediator to help him with God, because he cannot understand where his Friend has gone and why He is silent. All Job knew was the pain and suffering and loneliness. He was baffled. God redeemed him, but he had to experience the whirlwind first. Good study!
There is so much wisdom in Job and so much about the character of God. I am actually writing a book about Job (whether I finish it is another story LOL) because I always find the book so fascinating.
Our discipleship class taught through Ruth several years ago. One of the things that impressed me in the narrative is the courage of Ruth to approach (at the urging of Naomi) Boaz to act as redeemer. Unless I have gotten this all wrong, her actions were a proposal of marriage, because redemption would necessarily involve her marriage to Boaz. The other thing that impressed me about Ruth was that Ruth was proposing marriage as a means to secure Naomi's future. It was an act of faithful sacrifice for the good of her mother-in-law.
I suppose it could be seen as a proposal since the initial go'el turned down the right of redemption because it would have involved marrying Ruth. He was ok taking the land but when Boaz mentioned Ruth he was like "Well....on second thought." LOL So yes, it did involve marriage and both Ruth and Boaz understood what she was asking.
As an aside, I have thought it humorous that Boaz's surprise at finding Ruth at his feet is expressed in some translations as "behold, a woman lay at his feet." As if he was thinking, well, I wasn't expecting that.
