Diane!

I was so NOT expecting to have the entirety of my devotion flipped upside down this morning.

The thing I keep coming back to, and you've really highlighted it here, is the last time God called me to something, it took me a year to stop arguing with Him about it.

I had excuses (some semi-valid and some not at all), I had explanations, I had all the things going against it... in short, worldly concerns.

Since then, I've been committing myself to listen and obey the first time. But it seems that's not what's needed. I need to live in a continual posture of "the answer is yes, Lord. Now what's the question?"

As the late Chuck Missler once said, the only reasonable response to God is worship, devotion, and obedience.

Thank you, Diane. I needed the reminder.

Well believe me… that post was written from my own perspective of having delayed responses to God’s direction.

Oh I'm sure we all have. I expect even Abraham and Samuel had their moments.

I love it. Thank you. I'm sad to admit that I didn't learn this until after my wife went home at the end of 2019—after I had been walking with the Lord for 45 years. But in my grief I did teshuvah in a way I had never really done. Now Hineni is my honest prayer every day as I get up and get started with the day given to me. What a joy it is. Alleluia. What a wonderful Messiah we serve.

Amen and what a beautiful thing to share. Thank you!

What an incredible teaching moment, an incredible teaching word! Available in a word. Complete surrender in a word. Thank you, Diane!

Thank you Don!!

Having grown up in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, I've been blessed to have been taught this particular word lesson in my youth.

That being the case, I absolutely love seeing it here!

Thank you for your writing!

Oh that is awesome. I did as well. Did you grow up in NYC?

Hineni posture. That changes everything.

I say yes LORD! What’s the question. Let that be the essence of who I am! I’m God’s yes girl!

The reason we all love Isaiah so much is that it’s another Bible within the Bible. It has 66 chapters just like the Bible. It’s got the same split of 39 old tests and then 27 new tests when you see this beautiful amazing picture with your spiritual eyes 👀 ears 👂heart ❤️. The entire Bible is a parable and it has deeper meanings that are hidden in plain sight. Jesus only spoke in parables and without a parable He did not speak. The world gets only riddles while we who are saved and redeemed get the parables explained personally by God who resides and dwells within us. This is the hidden manna that falls to the mind in a daily basis. This is the Kingdom of God within. This is how we enter into His rest and are lifted up above the storm waters of the Earth. Give us our daily bread 🥖 Lord. Take us up and away into your mind above. 🙏

is one of those words I keep coming back to when I teach. It only appears at the most pivotal moments — Abraham with Isaac, Moses at the burning bush, Isaiah volunteering himself. Never casual. Always a moment when the stakes are total. The word doesn’t just mean “I’m here” — it means “I’m fully present, completely available, take me.” That’s a different kind of posture than just showing up.

Yes! Hineni is one of those words that carries the weight of the whole person, isn't it? Not just physical presence but a handing over of the self, a radical availability.

Literally one of my FAVORITE Hebrew words! And I love that it starts with the letter ‘Chet’ with all that that letter speaks of regarding our connection to the breath and presence of God! 🙌🏼

This is rich. I will be ruminating on it for a while… thank you!

Excellent article! I once wrote about this word/posture and the amount of push back about God still speaking, God still calling our names, was unbelievable. Love this.

Cathy Colver Garland's avatar

Yes, whenever I present that God is still speaking, I get push back on social media from cessationists. The only way God speaks is through His word, they say, but He will never speak like He did in His word. It’s very strange.

My lesson for my ladies tomorrow is Genesis 22. I was even going to mention Abraham’s 3 “Here I am’s”. Twice to God and once to his son. Your post will be the highlight of my lesson and I will look so smart. I went to the TLV translation and sure enough, they are different. It amazing to me that God wanted me to see this before tomorrow. (God and Diane always make me look smarter than I really am.) Thank you so much! 🥰

If it’s more accurate or important to refer to Christ as Yeshua than Jesus, why didn’t the Jewish authors of the New Testament use it? I realize that there is no ‘sh’ sound in Greek, but they could have at lest called Him Yesua. But instead they called Him Ιησού (Iesu).

She's So Scripture's avatar

The New Testament is written in Greek. As a Jew, His name would have been Yeshua and they would have referred to Him as such but like the rest of the NT, it was translated.
