I appreciate your thoughtful explanation of tohu va-bohu, not merely chaos, but the beginning of something meaningful. Genesis 1:2 reminds us that even in emptiness, God is near, ready to shape beauty from the void.
Praise Almighty YWYH! I will share this with my brother who is walking away from an abusive relationship. He is feeling Tohu va-Bohu and I am praying for his deliverance and that Elohim will creatively restore his life into beauty❤️❤️❤️
Shouldn't orthography of Bohu be Bhohu to keep consistent with differing Hebrew letters & slight differences in sounds of that consonant? V does not equal B and Hebrew letter Bet(h) should sound different from a Vav (or Waw)...
Seems very petty, except folks like me who appreciate your obsessive even Talmudic focus on what seems from a narrative point of view microscopic would likely pipe up.
Ohhh I knew someone would comment on this and I’m so glad it was you! LOL You’re totally right: in Genesis 1:2 the bet has a dagesh, so it’s a hard B which is why I went with bohu instead of vohu.
Now, depending on the transliteration system used, you’ll at times see people try to preserve that “bet/vet” difference and end up with vohu (or even bhohu like you suggested). Honestly? Transliteration is messy. That’s why most English Bibles just stick with bohu, and I chose to keep it simple for this post. The 'v' could be confusing for people who are just learning because they would assume it is a hard v sound, even with the bh, which would be kind of foreign to them (no pun intended). So I kept it simple.
But you’re absolutely right... these tiny details are where so much beauty hides. Thank you for being the kind of reader who notices and cares enough to say something. That’s the kind of thing that makes these Word Girl Wednesdays fun.
