In Hebrew, "satan" is a common noun, and Job and Zechariah call him hasatan — "the accuser," with the definite article. That grammar changes everything.
I just connected the dots as to why Jesus tells the disciples he’s going to send the Spirit as an advocate (even though many translate it as helper). If *ho diabolos* is the accuser/adversary, of course God will send us a “court appointed advocate.”
I'm fairly new listening to your teachings, a friend gifted me a month subscription and I'm enjoying them very much! In light of today's teaching I would like to ask your opinion. However, i'm not sure on what platform to ask it on- I have the TLV Bible, along with most of the other versions. I have recently purchased the Ethiopian Bible and I would like your opinion on the book of Enoch and the names of the angels and their characteristics compated with ha- satan?
Thanks for this teaching, Ms. Diane! I've heard a very basic version of this, but not in the detail you've provided. I'm learning a lot from your articles! Also, who does the illustrations you always have at the top? They are lovely. 🩵
Thank you for this. Bring raised in a Bible believing generational Christian family. Our church was Evangelical and then Evangelical United Brethren. The EUB's foolishly combined with the Methodist n became the United Methodist which is now an apostasy denomination.
So from childhood up I did not get my impression of satan from Halloween. Our children's Sunday school classes we learned who he was. I remember reading big taught a song that said get me behind me sainted I don't want anything to do with you today. But we focused on who Jesus was and I remember as a child that I really wanted to follow Jesus.
Really appreciate you sharing all this important information and insight into scripture. It is important for us to understand the Hebrew also. May the Lord continue to give you insight and wisdom and scripture understanding that you share with us. I am glad that you came to my attention on Substack.
Thank you so much for this study. I love the picture of “the accuser” standing in the parking lot yelling at the Judge who has stopped listening. I need to be like the Judge.💕
This really helps me deepen my understanding of antisemitism and anti-Zionism, which are essentially ideologies of accusation. The dragon, who is the accuser, is enraged at the woman who gives birth to the child and is at war with her and her children. His primary weapon is (false) accusation, by which he stirs up the nations against her. We are witnessing this happen before our very eyes today.
I knew of and have sermon-ed about *the* satan. You have vindicated me! Lol. I did not know about what the lack of a definite article means. I thank you for the fuller picture e.g., Balaam's angel - and maybe his donkey as well. I hope i will be more attentive to "the accuser" hidden behind "the devil" - and whence comes [his] authority in future. The "roaring lion seeking to destroy" either (1) has permission from God to test or (2) is overstepping his [*sic*] authority. In either case, it changes something, bringing a situation clearly *inside* the realm of God that initially felt like it was wholly outside God's realm. And there is no realm outside...

That’s a lot to chew on. 😏
Thank you for these facts, plainly presented.

A beautiful reminder as this popped up in my email on this glorious Wednesday. Of just how small the accuser is compared to God!!
