Thomas wasn't a doubter. He asked for the same proof the other disciples received. Explore John 20 in its Jewish context and what it reveals about honest faith.
This is a pretty late comment-on a March post. You could say I am playing catchup. This is the first positive reading about Thomas I’ve ever encountered. Sometimes I love finding out I was wrong. I’ve only ever heard Thomas blamed, for not being there the first time Jesus appeared. And then for saying he would only believe under certain conditions. You have already opened my eyes to so many things—just by teaching me to look at texts more closely. To read closely. I already love making connections between the Tanakh and the New Testament - now I’m being taught to find those I didn’t know existed within the gospels. Thank you, thank you!
This week I took up the adult primer I learned Hebrew from when I was in school about 26 years ago - because I can’t stand not being able to read Hebrew anymore.
I appreciate your perspective, and this article. I had also previously looked at Thomas' words of going to die with Jesus not as despair but incredible loyalty. I still think about his insistence that the glorified body of Jesus would still have scars, and what that implies about his faith and the nature of bodily resurrection.
This is absolutely beautiful and I lost count how many times I has chill bumps because of the beautiful heart of Thomas and the incredibly gentle and lovingly & understanding heart of Yeshua. This is all things I never knew or noticed and I appreciate this so very much. This has touched me deeply forever!!!

That’s awesome!!
I bet Thomas appreciated this post!! I appreciate it too! Poor Thomas sure got a bad reputation for being honest!!
Right? LOL
There are so many mistranslations in the NT. It makes me wonder then why a Jewish scholar is not involved.
Thank you so much Abby! I’m glad!!
