This is such an interesting topic. I’ve read references to the Urim and Thummim before, but I don’t think I’ve ever really slowed down to understand what they were or what they reveal about Israel’s dependence on God for direction.

It was essentially saying to wait “until a priest should arise with Urim and Thummim”, which sounds like they weren’t available at the time. How they were lost (or stolen, or stashed away somewhere) we just don’t know.
