I am curious, as He came as Righteousness and Peace, I have been taught that this is a Christophany as well... since the Paraklete is also our peace, is this also a visible representation of Holy Spirit? Kind of springboarding off of the idea in EZ's question. I am constantly amazed at how deep His Love is, and His Word for our relationship to Him.

Question: Matthew’s gospel gives the genealogy of Jesus through Joseph’s Judah tribe, but Mary was a cousin of Elizabeth’s, who was of the tribe of Levi. Could Jesus then be both from the tribes of Judah AND Levi, making it possible for Him to be priest and king? Could Melchizedek have been a Christophany/Theophany?

This was a fascinating read, thank you for sharing! As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I always enjoy learning more about Melchizedek because we place a lot of importance on the Melchizedek Priesthood. It makes passages like Hebrews and Psalm 110 especially meaningful to me. I always appreciate seeing different faiths study these scriptures.

Out of ‘time’ tithing by Levi, righteousness vs evil. I’m mind blown. The knowledge of both hidden in plain sight. Wow. What Sister Frances Anna never knew. (My miss Patty)

Thank You!!

I knew those things but held them more like separate pieces of knowledge. The way you put or brought them together makes it real in a new way, deeper, I would even say awesome. In myself it makes me bow before the Lord. The Scripture that comes to mind: O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and how inscrutable are his ways! (Romans 11:33) I love the King James: “and his ways past finding out!” Shalom

Thank you so much for your posts, I have been so encouraged and it’s reigniting a fire in me for now beautiful God’s word is, and the Lord is using what you share to confirm things He’s speaking. So thank you for your faithfulness.

I think the righteousness and peace that marks this priest-king are so significant because I am often tempted to try to establish my own righteousness or control things to find peace. And Jesus offers me both as a gift because they flow out of who He is.

Yep-- this all checks out for me. Everything here is spot-on with what we teach in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Aaronic Priesthood is the preparatory Priesthood, the first Priesthood that males receive to learn how to serve through specific, assigned jobs: jobs that have to do with the administration of the sacrament and leadership and ministering. Males can receive the Melchizedek Priesthood as early as age 18, and it's considered the higher Priesthood. Melchizedek Priesthood holders can do all the stuff that Aaronic Priesthood holders can, and then some. All leaders in our church hold the Melchizedek Priesthood, from Elder's Quorum Presidents to The President of the Church.

Never thought about the King of Sodom offering to give Abraham all these riches at the same time Melchizedek offers peace …reminds me a bit of Satan offering “riches” while Jesus offers us Peace.

Hebrews 2:17 says that Jesus is our merciful High Priest before God. 3:14 says our great High Priest has entered heaven. Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us this great High Priest understands our weaknesses and that because of this grace, we can come boldly to the throne of God. Hebrews 5:8-9 says God qualified Jesus as the great High Priest, through his obedience. Then Hebrews 7:16 sums it up - "Jesus became a Priest, not by meeting the physical requirement of belonging to the tribe of Levi, but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed." Excellent discussion today!

Hebrews doesn’t invite us to make things up where Genesis is quiet, but it does teach us to pay attention to the quiet.

Well said. The quiet sometimes speaks loudly if we take time to listen.

Proof again and again, that the Lord came to fulfill the Law. "Before Abraham was, I AM". Amen. Thank you for breaking it down so succinctly!
